Here are some recollections of the present owner:The “woodlot”, located on Joshuatown Road in Hadlyme is a special place that has been in my family for roughly 100 years. It was originally part of my grandfather’s property, used as a source of firewood for his residence, located further down Joshuatown Road.Although the property was first used for practical needs, it has been equally enjoyed for its scenic beauty and woodland tranquility by three generations of my family.My grandfather’s home was sold many years ago, but my father held onto the woodlot, and continued to visit the property regularly throughout his life. Autumn walks through those woods stand out in my childhood memories, as do the many picnics we had on the property over the years. The land was one of my father’s favorite places, and he would usually find a way to include a visit to the woodlot anytime we were in the Lyme area. “Let’s take a shortcut home through Hadlyme” became a euphemism in our family for my Dad’s unplanned detours to Joshuatown Road, and a “quick walk” on the property.The land passed to myself, and my brother and sister. I have continued to enjoy it in the past twenty years - not only for sentimental reasons, but because of its pristine natural beauty. The environs of Joshuatown Road have changed quite a bit since I first visited there, yet the “woodlot” has remained virtually the same. It is a unique and timeless place.
